Postby smk08 » Mon Jun 07, 2010 11:47 am

Assalamu Alaikum
dear fellows i installed the squid from source code. it is working nicely. then i paste the script to run the squid using service command in ( /etc/rc.d/init.d). "service squid start" command is working perfectly but "service squid stop" command in not working . please point out the error in the script.

#!/bin/bash

# via the HTTP, FTP, and gopher protocols) on a system closer to the \
# requesting site than to the source. Web browsers can then use the \

# well as bandwidth consumption.

what does "service squid stop" show on your screen? what do the logs say?
Watch out for the !
Isn't it amazing how so many people can type "linuxpakistan.net" into their browsers but not "google.com"?

I extracted the directories from squid rpm in a directory , then copied etc/rc.d/init.d/squid to / etc/rc.d/init.d/squid.
Then I opend vi / etc/rc.d/init.d/squid . Then the following code is opened.
Then I modify it as follows.

#!/bin/bash
# squid This shell script takes care of starting and stopping
# Squid Internet Object Cache
#
# chkconfig: - 90 25

# via the HTTP, FTP, and gopher protocols) on a system closer to the \
# requesting site than to the source. Web browsers can then use the \
# local Squid cache as a proxy HTTP server, reducing access time as \
# well as bandwidth consumption.
# pidfile: /var/run/squid.pid
