I am facing some problems using mozilla ................mozilla dosent load some java applications

things get very messy when the page dosent downloads completely

could any1 please tellme exactly where to download this plugin (x-java-vm)

i just want to download this particular plugin and not the whole java package which is huge in size so help is neededd ..............

Go to that link , the download is a .xpi extension, it will automatically install,

Restart Mozilla, and type "about:plugins" in the address bar, check if there is an entry now for java-vm or whatever.

Sir, you need the jre (Jave Runtime Environment), that has the plugin www.blackdown.org I think you can get jre mozilla also has some instructions on how to set it up, I think you just download the jre, unpack, then do a symbolic link from the jave directory to the mozilla plugin directory.

JRE is the java runtime environment...JDK is the Java development kit.Both have linux versions.

The whole jre suite is around 13-15 mb and can be downloaded from http://java.sun.com or a customized version from blackdown.

Now, i would recommend stylish to first try the download located at the link mentioned by jargon, coz it specifically contains whats required by stylish, and is not as huge as the entire jre kit.

hmm well thx for all helpin me but unfortunately i am still stuck

The link that jargon gave me dosent helps coz the file is givin errors while downloading

and in www.blackdown.org i am totally lost as to which package to chose from and how minimum files i shld download from that package........and then afraid of the thought of installing it.

The link on this website is the same as i mentioned before i.e:

Now stylish, the whole j2se suite with netbeans is 70 mb!!!
while the jre suite (which is the only thing required by you) is around 15 mb.So just download the JRE located in the Download J2SE v 1.4.2_02 column (first column in the second section)in either of these formats:

1.Linux RPM in self-extracting file (info)
2.Linux self-extracting file

If you are using redhat, i recommend rpm.

well i downloaded the package named j2re-1_4_2_02-linux-i586-rpm.bin which is 13260 kb

i did the following

$ sh j2re-1_4_2_02-linux-i586-rpm.bin

the bin was gone and then i double clicked the package and it started installing

well i thought i was totally finished with the fuss but after browsing the net i came to know that still i am not able to c java applications so i did this:

about:plugins

and didnt c any plugins named java-vm even though i installed the package succefully

after some help at the java site i came to know i have to create a symbolic link i.e and was instructed som steps :

i was instructed to issue the " In -l blah blah /libjava..so" in the mozilla link directory

btw is mozilla plugins are in this directory "usr/lib/mozilla/plugins"

but still that didnt work

help needed again plz hlp me out from this ..............thx

Assuming you installed it properly, and made the symbolic links properly,

note that there might be a directory called /usr/lib/mozilla and another like /usr/lib/mozilla-1.X-X/

under each mozilla and mozilla-1.X-X/ there is a plugins/ directory, make sure your symbolic link is in /usr/lib/mozilla-1.X-X/plugins/
this is usually the case for Redhat, at least for what i have seen.

Also make sure you have linked it properly, if it still fails, just copy the plugin file into the proper mozilla directory, then do about:plugins,

due do frustration i deleted the folder /usr/java and obviously the plugin was in it

i did this to reinstall the package now i messed up my j2re package

when i try erasing the whole package with the command

rpm -ev j2reblahblah.rpm

it says /java could not be found:error

when i try installing it again it says package already installed (it gives the name of j2reblahblah.fcs some other package that might be installed with the downloaded rpm)

now as i messed the whole package i want to reinstall the package again after uninstalling the previous 1

please help man

well since you deleted the folder,
do a #: 'rpm -Uvh --force java.rpm'

But im sure this kind of rpm installing has been adressed in this BB before just search this site.

Obviously, since you manually deleted folders using rpm you will get errors.

Linux is actually really user-friendly, if you have trouble installing rpm's use gnorpm or something.

Reinstall the package, and follow the steps in the link that has been provided already above.
