Welcome aboard the long list of users having trouble with Linux modems :)

Alas, there is hope for you, a quick search on google revealed:

http://www.mbsi.ca/cnxtlindrv/
(apparently the chipset for Apache modems is made by Conexant)

Good luck!

apache dont uses conexant chipset it has its on chipset and no driver is avaialble for apache modems. :(
but you should try conexant driver source packge in the form of tar.gz.
but setserial can also work for some original PCI modems (worked for mine one friend on the apache modem).

read this page for setserial

From: http://www.apache-micro.com/english_fla ... CI-HCF.doc
(Q) I need LINUX Driver for my modem
(A) We do not have any drivers for LINUX. Conexant (chip manufacture) has not yet developed the driver for LINUX.
I think that pretty much says they're conexant.

From: http://www.modem-help.co.uk/chips/conhcf.html
Linux:
Conexant Generic promised for May 2002
On the conexant website, a link to the to site i've mentioned is given saying that THAT'S the place to get the Linux drivers.

If you *STILL* don't beleive me look at these pages:
1. http://www.modemhelp.net/a/apache.shtml
2. http://www.apache-micro.com/english_fla ... modems.htm

'Nuff said.

you are abosultely right.
but why i was saying this because i have seen 2 apache modems and there was no name of the conexant on the modem but they are saying on their site that they are conexant chipset .
"lspci" and "cat /proc/pci" were also showing that these are apache modems.
this modem i have seen(mentioned in the list that it uses conexant chipset)
http://www.apache-micro.com/english_fla ... sp-hcf.htm

has no name of "conexant " on its chip.but normally every modem has the name of chip manufecturer on its chip.
i am not saying that apache dont uses conexant chipset
thanks very much for info i will give now the conexant driver a try on apache modem  .
and by the way MR.stylish who advised you to buy the apache modem for linux?

i have tried quite a few with my system but found that
intel 5628 d-l-c works with win98,win2000,xp&linux7.3 too
driver didnt compiled on my system.but i downloaded compiled binaries form intel's site ,just two modules did the following as they said
1 insmod -f 536epcore.o
2 insmod -f 536ep.o
3 rm /dev/536ep
4 mknod /dev/536ep c 240 1
5 ln -s /dev/536ep /dev/modem

now i am up and running without any problem.......
what i want to say is that u dont have to buy fancy hardware...
