problem remains

Post by nedian »

i have done all that and sucessfully ran chroot and grub-install using rescue mode but the problem still remains, and i havnt got the grub
boot loader but still gettinng the grub prompt.

I want to make clear that i havnt installed winXP or any
other OS on linux or with linux , linux 9 is the only Os which isinstalled on the disk.

I think grub is installed and installation is not a problem because
if it werent so then i might not been able to get the grub prompt.
anyways , any suggestions??

disk /dev/hda= 20.0gb
cylinder of 16065*512=8225280 bytes

boot system
=== ======
/dev/hda1 * linux
/dev/hda2 linux
/dev/hda3 linux swap

That was some useful info from partition table.
my /boot directory also dosent exist in which kernel exists, this may also be the pbm, i dont know how to restore /boot dir

Dear Nedian
i think you should boot in to rescue mode from Bootable CD then
issue a command at shell #chroot /mnt/sysimage
then #grub-install
i think it may recover ur system
