Please Explain Promiscuous Mode

AOA,

Please Explain what is Promiscuous Mode, i just recoeved this message

eth0: Promiscuous Mode Enabled

I dont know anything in this regards, searched alot on GOOGLE but can not understand any thing.

Thanks for replying Saad, but even after reading that page, i dont understand why i got this MESSAGE saying

eth0: Promiscuous mode enabled

i dont use any of the App's listed there. Still got this message.

this message will show only when you use tcpdump or any other sniffer on local machine .

Dear Kashif bhai,

Thanks for telling me this, YES i did use a sniffer software recently on my LINUX box.
But it did not appear at that time, this mesage appear approx 2 days later.
