You need PATRIOT law to be really free! Stallman is dumb. Does not see closer to home.

Vector is based on slackware so should be a good choice. I am using collegeLinux (based on slack), but since it has not been updated for some time, can't recommend it.

If you are using KDE, there is KGET.

If firefox is downloading all, but just not finishing, you can move the file from /tmp yourself.

etherboot

http://etherboot.sourceforge.net/ provides functionality similar to PXE. In fact it should work with PXE's, although, when I tried, it did not work with the PXE boot, so you may have to burn your own EPROMS. For testing, you can boot it from a floppy. With etherboot. you can boot the machine from NF...

Urdu keyboard

I checked the Urdu kbd at http://cvs.freedesktop.org/*checkout*/xlibs/xkbdesc/symbols/urd This phonetic kbd seems to be missing some characters. Could not find "gol hae" [ہ ہیں], also numerals 1,2,3 [۱ ۲ ۳]. The phonetic kbd from CRULP http://www.crulp.org, that I currently use, seems to b...

The device should be /dev/modem
To be sure, you can check with "minicom -s" as to what minicom is using.

If you are getting a successful connection, the modem part is OK. You can configure KPPP. Put your ISP username/password. Unless your ISP requires some peculiar settings, KPPP default should be OK.

This is major news. My linguistic skills are really poor, the bit of advocacy I do is really based on need rather than any competency in the language. I sure will try to help with Urdu localization. We should be able to make use of translation material that has been accumulating on the net.

Mudassir, No one has a magic wand to convert this forum to Urdu. Poll results mean zilch in this context. People who run this forum have invested time and money to make it a success. There is no business case to make a change overnight. As Fawad has stated that we are free to write in Urdu. The way ...

Fawad, Perhaps a good way to ease everyone in to Urdu and practice their Urdu keyboarding skills would be to create a Urdu-Gup-Shup (اردو۔۔گپ شپ) section catering exclusively to Urdu. Such a section can be useful initially to develop a vocabulary for technical terms which will be essential in the ev...
