I have Grub Bootloder with redhat9 after editing /etc/hosts
after restrat the password not accepted as well as user password not accepted please help.

i have seen this bug in fedora core 2 where it usually happens if you turn off shadow/md5 etc password options during installation.
anywayz, create a bootable floppy and boot, once you get the bash prompt do 'chroot /mnt/sysimage' and then 'passwd root'
if it doesnt help then check the permission and ownership settings for /etc/passwd file should be root:root 650 i guess

No need to use rescue cd.
at the grub boot loader prompt. highlight linux entry press... e....to edit and add a -s (dash s) at the end and press b to boot.it will start linux in single user mode.
type:
passwd
enter new password and save.
then type reboot..to reboot and use the new password.
