virus problem

i just installed windows 2000 advanced server on my computer. whenever i connect to the internet a window with a message appears that my windows registry is corrupted and shows me different urls at different times. i think it is a virus or a worm. what should i do?

Install Linux and forget virsuses, worms, trojans everything.

you can't say these things don't exist under linux, it's just a lot more rare.

gabriel_ameen: try the most obvious thing, get a virus scanner and scan your files.
go to symantec's sarc site and use their tools.

Nah, its just a Net messaging spammer.
All you need to do is shutdown the messenger service. ( I'm not talking about MSN messenger )

Yes sometimes the window's messaging service is used to spam users.

To disable it start a command prompt and type "net stop messenger" and then hit enter.

Good one AsadRasheed. A firewall is must these days. I forgot ot turn up my ZoneAlarm Pro befor connecting and my Antivirus bugged me in 5mins since I connected my net.

The case is even worse if you use the M$ IE, others such as FireFox are better secured.

Use Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition, or use Spyware Doctor its a registry cleanup scanner... I hope this may help you.

Antivirus Software: Kaspersky Pro 5
FireWall: ZoneAlarm Pro
Anit-Spyware: Spybot Search and Destroy
