What if we combine Nafees and Liberation fonts to write Urdu
Assalam o Alaikum,
As most of you know, using Nafees Web Naskh font for writing English text does not go well on Linux.
So I was thinking if somehow I could manage to combine both Nafees Web Naskh and Liberation Sans, reading and writing Urdu on LinuxPakistan forums will become easier.
So I need guidance on how to do this on Linux.
Anyone who can help?

I have found out what was wrong. When I edit my preferences manually to show all pages in Urdu Azad Naskh, then the font is not rendered well. But when I made an HTML page with font specified, it was rendered very well. So it seems like it is ready to be used on LinuxPakistan.Muhammad Saad wrote:The font does not seem to be rendering well on Firefox. It looks like I shall have to find another way.
I wonder where Fawad bhai has gone.

I have found a better font while searching my Urdu fonts collection. It is named "Simplified Naskh". Tomorrow I shall try to find out the original download location from where I had downloaded it. If I could not find it, I shall upload it to some file-sharing service so that people who are interested can try it. I think it will work great if we used it here.

I have found the original download location for Simplified Naskh. Here is the link:
http://www.khaledhosny.org/filebrowser/SimplifiedNaskh
But it seems like the latest version has some rendering problems.

Here are two more fonts that I found on the same site while looking around:
http://www.khaledhosny.org/filebrowser/Thabit
http://www.khaledhosny.org/filebrowser/Mothanna
I also found an archive containing numerous other fonts on the site:
http://www.khaledhosny.org/files/pub/ae_fonts.tar.bz2
It will take a while for me to find out which one of them is best for use on LinuxPakistan forum. So stay tuned.

I just got another idea. If I remove all the English alphabets from Nafees Web Naskh, then most font rendering engines will automatically display the missing characters using the system's default font. In such case, we can use Nafees Web Naskh for Urdu but Sans-Serif (or whatever the system's default font is) for English.

This is more problematic than I thought. Even more difficult than learning the basics of PHP.
So now I am going to spend my time on the alternative stylesheets idea instead of this one.
