Redhat is not a member of BSA.

And you should avoid to use Redhat EL products without license, if you are using any of them.

Isn't RHEL products GPL as well, I always thought they were. The only thing you are not entitled to is their support. Please do correct me If I am wrong.

i believe that's where the license comes in -- the license is for support. thing is, you can download the updates in rpm format on one machine (which has the support license) and then copy them onto other machines which aren't licensed.

to be on the safe side, if you truly need rhel but don't want to pay for it, use centos instead.

as an aside, it is a misconception that gpl = $0. gpl'd software can be sold.

NO. RHEL is different case, they them self distribute their sources while BSA members do not. RHEL is more of a Business mark / service mark protection issue. Remove the mark there is no violation while with BSA members products you must remove entire product.

i guess lambda clarified better about licensing issue and GPL.
