I am not sure if there is complete urdu desktop yet, but you can install language-pack-ur and language-support-ur packages, I think both are in main repo, just run the following command:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install language-pack-ur language-support-ur

URDU Support in Ubuntu

No, Urdu support is in development phase yet. The most translated version is Ubuntu 6.06 LTS (to my knowledge). You may go and see the status

Urdu versions of Slax and Ubuntu

Post by Muhammad Saad »

There have been Urdu versions of Slax and Ubuntu.

Here they are:

Urdu Slax (2nd version): http://makki.urducoder.com/?p=541

Urdu Ubuntu: http://makki.urducoder.com/?p=570

The interesting part is that more than 90 percent of the work (including translation as well as other work) has been done by a single person.

I have noticed that the character encoding used on the forum pages has been changed to iso-8859-1 from utf8 which makes Urdu text look like some alien language. Please fix that.
